Changing Lives Together: Join Us

Our amazing volunteers are at the heart of New Generation. From bringing joy and smiles to our mothers and children, helping with the upkeep of our shelter, or playing a special part in a family’s milestone move into permanent housing, volunteers are a vital part of our mission.

But as the demand for our services is increasing, we need more volunteers! We offer flexible opportunities to cater to your schedule, whether you are retired, looking to spare a few hours after work or can help on an as-needed basis.

Volunteer Opportunities at New Generation

Ask any one of our wonderful volunteers and they’ll tell you they get so much out of helping their communities: a feeling of connectedness, a sense of giving back, and a comforting feeling of well-being. Join us and see!

Childcare Assistance

We are seeking volunteers to provide childcare for our families based on their daily needs (i.e., medical appointments, school meetings, job interviews, and more). All volunteers interested in this category will have to complete a background check.

Enrichment Sessions for Families

Volunteers conduct fun but also enriching activities for women and their children. This is based on families’ specific interests. All volunteers interested in this category will need to complete a background check.

Educational Sessions and Tutoring for Families

Volunteers facilitate sessions in which they teach specific topics based on the interests and needs of our families, such as financial counseling, career development, and physical wellness. They can also provide individual tutoring for families. All volunteers interested in this category will need to complete a background check.

Celebrate Children’s Birthdays

Help make a child’s birthday a special and memorable occasion. We’ll provide you with a list of our children’s upcoming birthdays and their wish lists. Your support will help bring smiles to their faces and create cherished memories they’ll carry with them for a lifetime.

Beautification and Maintenance of Program Spaces

Our shelter spaces house nearly two dozen families and requires ongoing maintenance to better serve our residents. Volunteers help with tasks such as painting rooms, organizing pantry and storage areas, winterizing the house for the colder months, making general house repairs, and assisting with gardening, yard work and landscaping.

Second Generation Thrift Shop

Located in the heart of Greenland, our Second Generation Thrift Shop provides a wide range of ‘gently-used’ clothing, home goods and accessories, with proceeds supporting our mission.

To help keep the store operating, we rely on volunteers to sort and organize donations, and help with pricing and merchandising.

Making a Family’s Apartment Move-in Ready

"Our partnership with New Generation is such a blessing! Students have been able to organize drives in order to collect items and donations to give to the shelter. It is wonderful for our students not only to give back to such a great organization, but to become more aware of the issues in their own community.”
